Acrogamy

Acrogamy

With acrogamy (from the Greek ἄκρον “tip, apex” and γάμος “wedding”) in botany, we mean that process of fertilization of spermatophytes in which the pollen tube penetrates the ovum through its morphological apex.
There are two types of acogamy:
– Acrogamy porogama, or porogamy, is defined as the process in which the ovum is provided with a micro-pilar canal;
– there is a process of acrogamy aporogama, or aporogamy, when instead the micropyle is missing (Cynomorium coccineum L., Ficus carica L.).
