How to make a home garden
That of the home gardens is not just a fashion but can be a solution to the insecurity of toxic residues present in the agricultural products we buy.
The realization of the vegetable garden becomes more interesting if you do not have only a few balconies but a terrace, even of modest size, where to make a fair production of the vegetables that we want.
In this contribution we will help you to realize what is necessary for the cultivation, while in the specific articles on the single cultivations we will describe the techniques that from time to time you will have to adopt.
The idea is to create, as shown in the image below, a permanent installation using simple wooden planks, waterproofed with ecological materials (now on sale in common building material dealers).
We recommend an axle height of at least 40 cm, a width of 30-40 cm (depending on the available space) and a length depending on the size of your terrace.
Between beam and beam in addition to the use of glue (vinyl or epoxy) use the nails to assemble them and the silicone to “weld” all the joints.
Once the boards have been assembled with glue and nails, spread the ecological waterproofing material on all the walls and on the bottom and wait at least 24 hours before proceeding further.
At this point put drainage pipes on the bottom of your wooden jars of no more than 50 mm that will then be able to conduct out the excess water through a hole made in the terminal part with a lower slope of your wooden pots. This will allow the draining of the water and will prevent stagnation and rotting of your plants.
At this point, if you do not want to have the “hassle” to manually irrigate the vegetable garden, the touch of class can be represented by an automatic irrigation system, made with a 25 mm diameter polyethylene tube, powered by an electronic control unit (cost between 40 and 70 euros) that will allow you to irrigate according to the program you will establish (also depending on the season).
The polyethylene pipe will have to run along all the vessels present and in correspondence of each plant will be inserted below the polyethylene tube (which will be drilled through a small screwdriver) a drip micro-irrigator (also these on sale where you have purchased the tube in polyethylene).
Well now you will have to put the soil in the pots and plants that you choose. But for these details we refer to the articles that you will find on this site on individual household crops.
Good collection and, above all, sure of what you will eat.
