The essential oil of geranium is an essence obtained from Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens, L’Hér., 1789) and from other species of Pelargonium.
The essential oil of geranium is used for its many properties as it has a healing, toning, anti-inflammatory action, and stimulates intuition and motivation.
Geranium essential oil is used in aromatherapy to increase imagination and intuition so as to be able to find solutions in confused or difficult situations. It stimulates the desire and desire to express oneself and to bring out what one feels deep down, it helps to become aware and balance the give-and-take.
Geranium essential oil is useful for stimulating people’s motivation.

Property –
The essential oil of geranium is particularly useful, in the form of compresses, in areas affected by acne, boils; in case of oily skin, in which there is a need to close the pores, to help the skin to compact.
It is an anti-inflammatory used for gargling and rinsing and is recommended in the treatment of congestion affecting the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, so it is useful in case of sore throat, pharyngitis and gingivitis.
It is an antispasmodic which, diluted in sweet almond oil and massaged on the lower abdomen, relaxes uterine contractions due to ovulation and menstrual pain; in this sense it helps to alleviate the discomforts of menopause and premenstrual syndrome, neuralgia and headaches.
It is a tonic oil indicated in massages to reactivate blood circulation, to fight to fight cellulite, and in the treatment, prevention or normalization of disorders that originate from a malfunction of the circulatory system, such as varicose veins, capillary fragility and couperose.
It is a good healing agent as, diluted to 5-10%, it promotes the healing of sores, cuts and burns and sunburn.
Finally, it is also an excellent repellent for insects as it repels mosquitoes and other insects.

Extraction –
Both the flowers and the leaves of the geranium are used in steam distillation through which the essential oil is extracted. The main chemical constituents extracted from the plant are terpenes: limonene, menton and geranyl acetate also present in other essential oils such as neroli. It is precisely the terpenes that constitute the high intensity of the odor of the essential oil of Pelargonium which, since ancient times, was used to treat wounds, ulcers and burns.

Contraindications –
Geranium essential oil can be considered safe, so there are no particular precautions to follow. However, it is important to remember that the improper use of essential oils can be harmful, so it is always necessary to always rely on the advice of a doctor.
