Theacrine, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 1,3,7,9-Tetramethylpurine-2,6,8-trione is an alkaloid.
Theacrine is also known by the names of: 1,3,7,9-tetramethyluric acid; Temurina; Temorina; Tetramethyluric acid; Tetramethyl uric acid.
This substance has a brute or molecular formula: C9H12N4.
Theacrine is a purine alkaloid and is a component present in smaller quantities in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) but present in greater quantities in the kucha subspecies (Camellia sinensis subsp. Assamica (Mast.) Kitam.) And in the cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) K.Schum.).
Furthermore, in some plants of the genus Coffea it is a product of the catabolism of caffeine.
Theacrine possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity.
Its use has demonstrated clinical safety and non-habituative effects in healthy humans for 8 weeks of daily use up to 300 mg / day.

Furthermore, following this trial, there was no evidence of tachyphylaxis typical of neuroactive agents such as caffeine and other stimulants.
In animal studies, theacrine has an LD of 810 mg / kg, compared to 265 mg / kg for caffeine.
