Calyptra

Calyptra

The term caliptra comes from the Greek kalýptra, derived in turn from kalýptō which means hide.
With the term calyptra, in botany, we mean some fabrics with particular functions:
– Coating, which covers the apex of the roots like a cap with a protective function of the apical meristem. (Sin. Pileoriza or Cuffia);
– In bryophytes it is the enlarged portion of the archegonium that surrounds the sporophyte in its development;
– In some flowers (Eucalyptus) it is the cap that covers and preserves the stamens formed by pieces of the perianth.
