How to grow blueberry in a biological way

For the cultivation of Blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L., 1753) it is necessary to start above all from the climatic conditions. These small plants can be placed in full sun, or preferably in the shade, especially in places with very hot summers, but choosing places with a good degree of brightness, a fundamental factor for the production of abundant fruit. Generally they do not fear the winter cold, even if there are species more suitable for the heat, and others more suitable for the cold; it is advisable to plant the bilberry shrubs away from wind, which can cause damage to the leaves and causes a rapid evaporation of the water from the soil. To keep the soil moist and to avoid the excessive development of weeds it is advisable (where available) to place bark, pine needles, or dried leaves around the plant or a straw-based mulch.

Particular attention must be paid to the choice of soil that must be particularly acidic, with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. It is therefore good to detect the pH level of the soil and possibly treat it, if it is a few plants, with the right fertilizers (eg acid peat) to achieve the desired level of acidity from the blueberry. The seedlings must be positioned at a distance of at least one meter from each other because the roots are superficial but rather extensive. We always keep in mind that the blueberry loves to keep the roots always fresh, so, as mentioned, let us never miss the water, moreover a good mulch of peat and leaves (or alternatively straw) helps to create the ideal conditions for the its development.
The blueberry grows very well even in pots on the balcony or on the terrace. In this case the problem of the soil and its ph does not subsist, it will be enough to fill the pot with a specific soil for acidophilus. In each pot, which must have a diameter and depth of at least 40 centimeters, plant a single blueberry seedling.
Attention to the work; as the blueberry has shallow roots, never use the hoe, let alone working tools, to remove any weeds because you could damage them; if you are dealing with just a few plants, use your hands to protect with a good pair of gloves; if instead you want to make a more extensive blueberry plantation the only technique that gives excellent results is that of vegetable mulching which, among other things, contributes gradually to the enrichment of the soil in organic matter.
For irrigation, consider that this must keep the soil always quite humid in the period from the beginning of May to the end of September, but without any stagnation. The mulching technique will allow you to drastically reduce the irrigation contributions that will be made when the first starts start to dry out.
In general, blueberry fruits ripen in succession over a period of 3-4 weeks. These fruits are very popular to consume fresh or jam and are also used both in herbal medicine and in the pharmaceutical industry, being rich in vitamins and flavonoids.
