Muscazone

Muscazone

Muscazone, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 2-amino-2- (2-oxo-3 H-1,3-oxazol-5-yl) acetic acid, is an alkaloid present in minimal part of Amanita muscaria .
This compound has a brute or molecular formula: C5H6O4N2.
From the physical point of view it appears as a crystalline solid.
The minimal presence of muscazone in Amanita muscaria makes its effects practically insignificant compared to the other alkaloid, present in greater quantities in this fungus and which is muscarine.
Muscazone is still a poorly studied molecule, which is why it is not clear whether it acts synergistically with the other active ingredients (including muscarine) to produce the known effects of intoxication.
