Acetrizoid acid

Acetrizoid acid

The acetrizoid acid whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 3-acetylamino-2,4,6-triiodrobenzoic acid and whose brute or molecular formula is: C9H6I3NO3, it is an aromatic amine.
Acetrizoid acid is used as a contrast agent to improve tissue x-ray vision.
From the acetrizoic acid derives a salt of its own which is sodium acetrizoate (DCI, also known with the commercial name of Urokon, Triurol and Salpix); this salt is a water-soluble high osmolarity compound used as an iodinated contrast agent in radiography and no longer used for clinical use.

Acetrizoid acid is the first monomeric ionic compound used as an X-ray contrast agent. This molecule was first synthesized by Wallingford in 1953 and its first use occurred soon after.
