Ryanodine is an alkaloid extracted from the Ryania plant (Ryania speciosa Vahl, 1796), used as an insecticide.
The active ingredient is a vegetable alkaloid: rianodine, capable of deactivating ryanodine receptors and thus blocking muscle contraction. The phytophagous affected by this active principle suspend the trophic, motor and reproductive activity; thus, in the last phase, one arrives at paralysis and death.
In fact, ryanodine has a high affinity for binding with the ryanodine receptor, a group of calcium channels that are found mainly in skeletal muscle and in the myocardium.

Already at very low concentrations (nano molars) the rianodina intervenes by blocking the receptors at the half-open stage, while at micromolar concentrations it closes them completely.
When ryanodine is present in nanomolar concentrations, it allows the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum allowing muscle contraction.
