How to grow the Cabbage in a biological way

The cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) is a biennial plant, variety of Brassica oleracea; in this contribution we will see how to grow the Cabbage in a biological way.
The cabbage plant resembles that of the cabbage. In fact there are many varieties of cabbage, whose most interesting differences are the color (green, red or purple) and the crop cycle (spring sowing varieties and others with autumn cultivation).
The cabbage is a species that prefers cooler, rainy climates; in fact, it grows well around 15-16 ° C, it fears excessive heat and resists well in the cold. Although it is a winter vegetable, however, there are some varieties, as mentioned, spring cycle.

To grow this vegetable it is good to be in the presence of neutral and well drained soils; it is however a vegetable that adapts very well to many situations but needs organic soils; for this reason the intake of mature manure or compost must not be missing before the seed bed is prepared. The sowing period (if winter variety), also depending on the latitude can go from January to September. The spring varieties are sown in January or February in heated seedbeds or between March and April. The autumn varieties are sown in June and from the end of July until September the winter ones. For sowing we recommend the seedbed in the appropriate containers with transplant after 40-60 days. With this technique the failures of full-field sowing are avoided. For the sixth we recommend distances of 50 cm between the plants and 60-70 between the rows. For the cabbage, the mulching technique is very useful, as well as requiring less irrigation water, a considerable contribution to the containment of weeds, and an organic integration at the end of the cycle and avoids the damage of the superficial roots with weeding and hoeing . With regard to irrigation it is advisable never to wet the leaves of the plant.
Another advice that we give you is to associate this plant, possibly in rows binate, with tomato, pepper, eggplant, potatoes and legumes that decrease the attacks of cavolaia annoyed especially by the Solanaceae. Never plant the cabbage in succession to itself but be at least three years old.
The cabbage collects when the head has reached a good size and is compact and firm to the touch; however, it can be consumed in any period (even if not too small) but the end of the vegetative cycle is chosen for a more abundant harvest.
As far as the cabbage diseases are concerned, the hernia of the cabbage, the alternaria, the peronospora and the black rot are to be remembered. Among the insects we remember the cabbage, the aphids and the cabbage fly. If you have horsetail preparations available you can give good protection both insecticide and fungicide to the plant.
Remember that from this vegetable you can get a variety of recipes including, one of the best known, is that of sauerkraut.
