Dihydrocaffeic acid

Dihydrocaffeic acid

Dihydrocaffeic acid, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 3- (3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) propanoic acid is an organic molecule present in the common vine plant (Vitis vinifera L., 1753) and in other plant species.
Dihydrocaffeic acid has a chemical formula: C9H10O4 and is also known by the acronym DHCA.
This organic compound is a monocarboxylic acid deriving from 3-phenylpropionic acid substituted by hydroxy groups in positions 3 and 4.
Dihydrocaffeic acid plays a role as an antioxidant and xenobiotic metabolite in the human body.
Dihydrocaffeic acid, in combination with malvidin-3′-O-glucoside (Mal-gluc), is effective in promoting resilience against stress by modulating brain synaptic plasticity and peripheral inflammation.
The DHCA / Mal-gluc combination also significantly reduced depression in the phenotypes of mice that had increased peripheral inflammation caused by transplanting haematopoietic progenitor cells from other mice more susceptible to stress in the laboratory.
In general, dihydrocaffeic acid is a compound that performs various biological activities, including antioxidant, neuroprotective and enzyme inhibitory properties.
