Isovitexin

Isovitexin

Isovitexin, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 5,7-dihydroxy-2- (4-hydroxyphenyl) -6 – [(2S, 3R, 4R, 5S, 6R) -3,4,5-trihydroxy- 6- (hydroxymethyl) oxan-2-yl] cromen- 4-one, is a flavone.
In isovitexin its aglycone is apigenin and the sugar part (glycone) is made up of glucose.
Isovitexin also has the following alternative names: Isovitesin, Omovitexin, Saponaretin, 6-C-Glucosilapigenin, Apigenin-6-C-glucoside and has a brute or molecular formula: C21H20O10.
For this molecule the prefix “iso” does not imply an isoflavonoid (the position of the B ring on the C ring), but the position of the glucoside on the flavone.
Isovitexin is a naturally occurring glucoside flavone in some plants.
It is found:
– in the passion flower (Passiflora edulis Sims and other spp.);
– in cannabis (Cannabis sativa L. 1753 and other spp.);
– in the açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea Mart.).
