How to prepare sour cherries in syrup
Cherries in syrup are a delicious dessert made with sour cherries, called sour cherries, which are preserved in a sweetened syrup. Here is a recipe for preparing sour cherries in syrup:
Ingredients:
1 kg of fresh cherries
500 g of sugar
500ml of water
Juice of half a lemon (optional)
Instructions:
Start by washing and pitting the cherries. You can do this by hand or with a cherry pitter if you have one available.
Make the syrup by placing the water and sugar in a saucepan. Turn the stove to medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Add the pitted cherries to the sugar syrup and stir gently to make sure they are completely submerged in the syrup.
If you wish, you can also add the juice of half a lemon to the syrup to give the cherries a little acidity.
Reduce the heat and let the cherries cook in the syrup for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help the cherries release their juice and absorb the flavor of the syrup.
Once the cherries are cooked and soft, turn off the heat and let them cool in the pot.
Transfer the sour cherries in syrup, together with the syrup, into sterilized glass jars. Make sure the jars are clean and dry before filling them.
Close the jars tightly and store them in the refrigerator. The sour cherries in syrup will keep for several weeks.
You can serve cherries in syrup as a topping for ice cream, yoghurt, cakes or panna cotta. You can also use cherry syrup to add flavor to drinks or as a base for cocktails.
