How to prepare almond milk
Making almond milk is a simple process and requires only a few ingredients. Here is a basic recipe for making almond milk:
Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted almonds
4 cups of water
Sweetener to taste (optional), such as sugar, maple syrup, or honey
Vanilla or other flavoring (optional)
Instructions:
Put the almonds in a bowl and cover them with water. Let the almonds soak for at least 6-8 hours or overnight. This will soften the almonds and make the blending process easier.
Drain and rinse the soaked almonds under running water to remove any residue.
Put the almonds in the blender and add 4 cups of water. If you prefer a creamier almond milk, you can reduce the amount of water.
Blend the almonds and water on medium-high speed for about 1-2 minutes, until you get a smooth and creamy consistency.
Set a strainer or muslin cloth over a large bowl and pour the blended almond mixture. Mash the mixture with a spoon or clean hands to squeeze out all the liquid.
Once you’ve extracted all the milk from the almonds, you can store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 to 4 days. Shake the milk before consuming, as it may separate slightly during storage.
If you want to sweeten the almond milk, you can add sugar, maple syrup, honey or other sweeteners to taste. You can also add vanilla or other flavorings to customize the flavor.
Remember that homemade almond milk will not contain the additives or stabilizers often found in packaged almond milk.
