Dihydrotanshinone I
Dihydrotanshinone I
Dihydrotanshinone I, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: (1R) -1,6-dimethyl-1,2-dihydrophenantro [1,2-b] furan-10,11-dione is an organic compound of natural origin extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge.
Dihydrotanshinone I has a brute or molecular formual: C18H14O3, with three hexavalent rings and one pentavalent. This substance belongs to a class of lipophilic abietanic diterpenoids and has been reported for potential cytotoxic activity for a variety of cancer cells, as well as for having antiviral effects in vitro.
Since this molecule was first discovered by Dan Shen, over 40 related compounds and over 50 hydrophilic compounds have been isolated.
The discovery on the cytotoxicity of dihydrotanshinone I is relatively recent and research is underway to investigate whether the mechanism underlying the toxicity of dihydrotanshinone I involves apoptosis in tumor cell lines.
It was seen from these studies that dihydrotanshinone I induced cell growth arrest during the S phase and, subsequently, apoptosis, following its application to K562 / ADR cells, while the comparison with cryptotanshinone did not have these. effects. These results suggest that the action of dihydrotanshinone I involves apoptotic pathways other than those involved in the modality of cryptotanshinone.
