Passiflorine is a glycoside extracted from plants of the genus Passiflora such as, for example: Passiflora edulis Sims and Passiflora incarnata L., 1753.
Passiflorine, according to the official IUPAC terminology, has the name of: (22R), (24S) -22,31-epoxy-24-methyl-1α, 3β, 24,31-tetrahydroxy-9, -d-glucosyl ester of 19-cyclo-9β-lanostan-28-oic acid.
This glycoside can play a role as a mild sedative, helping to calm states of agitation and promoting sleep.
