Thujene (or α-thujene) is an organic molecule belonging to the class of monoterpenes.
Thujene in the official IUPAC nomenclature is called: 1-Isopropyl-4-methylbicyclo [3.1.0] es-3-ene.
This molecule has a brute or molecular chemical formula: C10H16.
Thujene is a naturally occurring molecule found in the essential oils of a variety of plants and contributes to the spicy flavor of some herbs such as savory (Satureja hortensis L., 1753) or other plants such as common juniper (Juniperus communis L .).
The term thujene usually refers to α-thujene. A chemically less common double bond isomer is known as β-thujene (or 2-thujene). Another double bond isomer is known as sabinene.
