How borage is propagated

Borage (Borago officinalis L.) is an annual herbaceous plant of the Boraginaceae family, native to the Mediterranean basin, from which it was introduced for cultivation in numerous Eurasian and American countries.
In Italy it is found everywhere, spontaneous or naturalized, from the plain up to 1,000 m of altitude.
The plant can be propagated by seed starting from the collection of spontaneous plants.
The seeds necessary for sowing the following year must be collected when the plant is in full bloom and, after harvesting, they are kept in a dry place until the time of sowing.
In this regard, please note that borage blooms from May to September and the seeds ripen from July to October.

Propagation –
Borage is sown in spring on fertile and sandy soil; sowing can be done both in open fields and in large pots. The cycle of this plant is quite short and spreads spontaneously reborn every year or even in the same summer.
In regions with a mild climate it is possible to sow it even in late autumn. If the climate is mild, seeds with a high germination capacity will give life to new plants in no time.
If you want to grow indoors, the borage can be sown in pots at the end of winter by placing the seeds about 1 cm deep. The pot or seedbed must be placed in a warm place with minimum temperatures above 10 ° C and for all the time necessary for germination the soil, fresh and fertile, must be kept constantly humid.
Sowing in the ground is carried out by always placing the seeds at a depth of about 20 cm on the row and 60 cm between the rows.
