Actinomorph

Actinomorph

With the term actinomorph, in botany or zoology, we mean a part of an animal or vegetable organism that has organs with different planes of radiated symmetry.
It is therefore called actinomorphic organ when this is characterized by radiated symmetry.
In this sense, a flower, a fruit, a leaf, etc. they can have radiated symmetry, like a circle.
For their symmetry, actinomorphic flowers are also defined as “regular”, as they have a symmetrical corolla with respect to a central point so that all planes of symmetry (more than 2) pass through this.
Actinomorphic flowers are often used to associate the terms trimer, tetramer, pentamer, etc. to indicate the number of petals or tepals.
Examples of actinomorphic flowers are those of some species such as:
Example Dianthus, Rosa, Vinca, etc.
The term actinomorphic contrasts with zygomorphic and irregular with only one or no plane of bilateral symmetry.
