Anadromous

Anadromous

In botany, the term anadromous refers to a formation directed towards the upper part of an organ or apparatus.
Thus, for example, there can be anadromous inflorescences, those in which flowering begins from the bottom and proceeds upwards, for which the apical flowers are often in bud while the basal ones have already withered.
In these conditions the inflorescences are called acropete (or basifuge), that is with flowering and growth from the bottom up and where, therefore, the basal flowers will be older than the apical ones.
The term anadromous contrasts with that of catadrome.
