How to grow jujube in a biological way

The Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) Is a fruit bearing juvenile with Asian origins, widespread in almost all Italian regions even in the spontaneous state. Unfortunately, it is a plant that is less and less cultivated (like many minor fruits) with a dangerous erosion of agricultural biodiversity.
The Jujube plant is carried out by astones or by the suckers rooted in winter in the south and in the areas with a mild winter and in autumn in places where the average seasonal temperatures are lower. The jujube can be grafted onto the wild (split in January or February or a bud in the summer).
The jujube plant does not need much attention, but good techniques always increase quantity and quality. Although it adapts to any type of soil, we recommend a medium-textured soil with a good amount of organic substance, good drainage and a neutral pH.
Even if the plant also tolerates temperatures of many degrees below zero it is always good to choose a sunny position or, in cold areas, in more sheltered areas. If you have to set up a certain amount of it, never descend under a six-footer in the row and 3-4 in the rows.

Like all rustic plants, the irrigation of the jujube must be carried out in periods of intense heat and during long periods in the absence of rainfall. For fertilization, perform it in the autumn period before the beginning of intense colds with mature animal manure with a minimum rest period of 9 months (attention to the use of the pollen: operate it seldom and very sparingly). The quantities can range from 20 to 30 kg respectively for plants undergoing vegetation and for plants in full development.
Pruning should be started immediately after the planting in order to choose the right form of breeding. You can adopt the forms: column, cast or pyramid that must be regulated during the breeding phase that goes from 7 to 9 years. After which the excess and dry branches are cut and removed.
For the harvesting of jujube, remember that it is climbing from October to November.
On the face of adversity, it should be noted that the jujube is quite resistant and not very attacked by pests; however, adversity increases due to incorrect cultivation measures such as: choice of soils with excessive acidity and too humid, use of synthetic fertilizers (nitrogen on all), areas not sunny, irrigation not necessary. However, you should know that the phytopathies that can occur are represented by: Anthracnose, Gray mold, Rust (Phakopsora zizyphi), Collar rot, Cercosporiosi del Giuggiolo (Cercospora jujubae), or insects such as: Fruit fly (Carpomya vesuviana), Cydia molesta, incomplete Carpomya, Ceratitis capitata and Carposina sasakii.
For these we recommend the natural insecticides that you will find on this site.
