Onion macerate

Onion macerate

Onion macerate is a very useful preparation for keeping away parasites and other phytophagous insects such as bedbugs or the carrot fly. Furthermore, this macerate can help rooting and growth by immersing the roots of vegetable seedlings in it before transplanting.
To prepare the onion macerate you can follow the following technique.
The ingredients are:
– Onions.
– Waterfall.
– A jar or plastic container.
At this point we move on to the preparation following the following instructions.
Preparation of onions: Take a number of onions and cut them into coarse pieces. There is no need to peel them.
Place the onion pieces in the jar or plastic container. Fill it with water until the onions are completely covered. The ratio of onions to water can vary, but a good starting point is to use around 100-200 grams of onions per liter of water.
We then move on to the covering and fermentation phase. Close the jar or cover the container with a lid that is not completely sealed. This allows aerobic fermentation. Leave the jar in a cool, dark place for about a week. During this period, the water will absorb the nutritional compounds and beneficial substances present in the onion.
Now we can move on to filtering.
After a week, filter the liquid obtained through a cotton cloth or a strainer to separate the onion pieces. The resulting liquid is your ready-to-use onion macerate.
To use it, you need to dilute the onion macerate with water.
The typical ratio is about 1 part onion macerate to 10 parts water, but you can adjust the dilution as needed. You can use this diluted macerate as a plant fertilizer or as a natural insect repellent.
Onion macerate, as well as being able to be used as an excellent ally to protect crops from insect attacks, is excellent for promoting plant growth thanks to its natural nutrients. Be sure to dilute it properly and test it on a small area before using it on all your plants.
