Europetin

Europetin, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 3,5-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-2- (3,4,5-trihydroxyphenyl) -4H-1-benzopyran-4-one is O-methylated flavonol.
Other synonyms are:
– 7-methylmyricetin;
– 3,5,3 ′, 4 ′, 5′-Pentahydroxy-7-methoxyflavone.
Europetin has a brute or molecular formula: C16H12O8 and is present in nature and can be extracted from common leadwort (Plumbago europaea L.) which is a herbaceous species belonging to the Plumbaginaceae family.
The europetin can, however, be prepared synthetically.
Europetin is a monomethoxiflavone which derives from a myristin in which the hydroxyl group in position 7 is replaced by a methoxy group.
This substance plays a role as a plant metabolite.
