Lignoceric acid

Lignoceric acid, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: tetracosanoic acid is a saturated carboxylic acid with 24 carbon atoms.
Lignoceric acid has a brute or molecular formula: C24H48O2 and in nature it can be found in wood tar, in various cerebrosides, which are a category of glycolipids (glycosphingolipids) and in some vegetable oils.
In Pentaclethra macrophylla and Pentaclethra macroloba oils it is present in concentrations even higher than 10%.
In addition, the fatty acids of peanut oil contain small amounts of lignoceric acid (1.1% – 2.2%).
This fatty acid is also a by-product of lignin production.
Lignoceric alcohol is obtained from the reduction of lignoceric acid.
