With the term aphillia, in botany, we mean the early loss of leaves. This loss is characteristic of those plants that are able to perform the chlorophyll function through the stem.
Aphillia is a process that occurs in many shrub legumes. As in the Ginestre.
The term aphillia also means the adaptation implemented by plants, which live in arid areas, in order to reduce the transpiring surface by entrusting the chlorophyll function to other organs, such as the stem. This is a functional loss of leaves.
Sometimes the aphillia can be apparent as the leaves have turned into thorns.
