Galangin

Galangin, whose term in the official IUPAC nomenclature is: 3,5,7-trihydroxy-2-phenylcromen-4-one is a flavonol.
Galangin has a brute or molecular formula: C15H10O5.
This compound is found in nature, in high concentrations, in Alpinia officinarum, in Helichrysum aureonitens as well as in the rhizome of Alpinia galanga and in propolis.
Galangina takes its name from the galangal plant (Alpinia galanga).
Galangin possesses antioxidant activity, is effective against peroxidation, inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase and lipoperoxidase.
Furthermore, it has been shown that it has antibacterial and antiviral activity in vitro; moreover, again in vitro, it inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells.
