Abortion

In botany, the term abortion means the suppression of the developmental parameters of an organ.
Cases of abortion can occur with some conditions:
– in the event that hermaphroditic flowers become male or female due to abortion of the ovary or stamens respectively;
– in the event that a fruit coming from an ovary with more than one ovule, becomes monospermic, as only one ovule will give rise to the semen, due to the abortion of the other ovules.
Abortion conditions can also occur in particular climatic or stress conditions of the plant.
