Eco-drugs

By eco-drugs we mean those psychoactive compounds of natural (vegetable) origin that are not synthesized in the laboratory.
The use of eco-drugs has remote origins and refers to the ancient traditions related to traditional medicine and, therefore, to some anthropological habits that are lost in the mists of time.
These substances as well as used in folk medicine had, and still have for some peoples, functions also linked to particular rituals also of a religious nature.
These substances were prepared in advance, obtained from various herbs and plants and then used or consumed during the rites, also as a propitiatory function.

However, the voluntary (and non-curative) use of these products exposes consumers to serious psychophysical consequences, since there is no certain knowledge relating to the toxicity and pharmacology of the active ingredients of these products.
Among these, for example the Salvia Divinorum, also known as Maria Pastora or Ska Maria Pastora (Salvia divinorum Epling & Játiva, 1962) which is a powerful natural hallucinogen whose intake can cause hallucinations, distortions of sensory perceptions, of space and time , loss of contact with reality, depression and dissociation phenomena, recently included in the tables of narcotic and psychotropic substances referred to in Presidential Decree 309/90 of Italy.
