Scutellarin
Scutellarin
Scutellarin is a flavone having a brute or molecular formula: C21H18O12.
Scutellarin is a phenolic compound which, in nature, is found in some plant species such as: in the Scutellaria barbata (Scutellaria barbata D. Don.), In the Scutellaria lateriflora (Scutellaria lateriflora L.) and in the common Camedrio (Teucrium chamaedrys L., 1753 ).
The first determination of the structure of the scutellarin was made by Guido Goldschmiedt many decades ago. After the first publication appeared on this molecule in 1901, it was only in 1910 that it was possible to obtain sufficient starting material for more detailed studies.
Scutellarin has been shown to induce apoptosis of breast cancer cells and ovaries in vitro. As is known, apoptosis is that form of programmed cell death, that is, of that process quite distinct from cell necrosis, which under normal conditions contributes to the maintenance of the number of cells in a system.
