In biology, the term amphimissia or singamia refers to the process of sexual reproduction that leads to the formation of the embryo, originating from a zygote formed by fusion between an oosphere and a male gamete.
This process, in species that have amphigonia, that is, species that reproduce through the meeting of the two gametes, female and male, fertilization is the act during which the spermatozoon, or male gamete, enters the ovum, or female gamete , which leads to the amphimysis, that is the fusion of the two parental nuclei and the formation of a zygotic nucleus, which is what will give rise to the new individual.

In this way, the new individual, in various ways, will have a final genetic heritage derived from the genetic heritage of the two parents.
Amphimissia is therefore the phenomenon that allows genetic variability, a very important phenomenon for the evolution and adaptation of species.
