Frutice

The term frutice, in botany, means a shrub, perennial plant, bushy and branched from the base, of variable size.
From the term frutice it derives that of suffruticosa or suffruticose plant to mean in fact a small perennial plant, woody with herbaceous branches up to the base, at most half a meter high.

The term is related to the morphology classification that plants demonstrate in their adaptation responses to the environment.
It was the Danish botanist Christen Raunkiær in 1903 who classified plants according to their biological forms. In Raunkiær’s classification, camefites (Ch) can be of the suffruticose type (Ch suffr).
