Actinomorphism
Actinomorphism
Actinomorphism, in biology, is the characteristic of an animal or plant organism that has organs with different planes of radiated symmetry.
In botany, the flowers are the fruit, the fruits and the leaves that have several planes of symmetry and therefore have a radial symmetry arranged like a circle.
The actinomorphic flowers which are also called “regular”, have the corolla symmetrical with respect to a central point so that all the symmetry planes (more than 2) pass from this.
Example of actinomorphic flowers are in Dianthus, Rosa, etc.
Actinomorphism is opposed to zygomorphism, which appears instead in an irregular form with only one or no bilateral symmetry planes.
