Therophytes

Therophytes

The term therophytes refers to plant species that carry out their entire biological cycle within one year (usually a few months). According to the classification of Raunkjaer for the biological form, they fall into this grouping, therefore those annual plants that make their life cycle in the good season while they spend the adverse season at the state of seeds.
The therophytes, in turn, are divided into the following subgroups:
– T caesp They are the annual plants that form tight tufts, normally with more flower stems;

– T par parasitic therophytes. Annual plants that live at the expense of others, taking their sap from specific organs;
– T rept Terofite reptanti. Annual plants with creeping stems on the ground;
– T rosophytum Terophytes. Annual plants with all the leaves, or almost all, in a basal rosette;
– T scap Scapulous Terofite. Annual plants with an elongated floral axis, often without leaves.
The therophytes are frequent especially in areas with strongly dry seasons; they sprout quickly after a rain to sometimes conclude their life cycle (ephemeral plants) in a few weeks.
