Lemongrass essential oil is obtained from Cymbopogon nardus, belonging to the Poaceae family. This essential oil is known for its repellent properties against mosquitoes and other insects. Its applications as a repellent for furniture moths are interesting. Property also owned by the plant in the vegetative state. Among the properties of the essential oil of lemongrass it should be remembered that in aromatherapy it is used to decrease states of sadness and depression.
Due to its antispasmodic properties, the essential oil of citronella is used in cases of abdominal cramps, colitis, spasms and more generally for muscle pain. It is used together with a carrier oil that can be almond oil or olive oil.
Due to its antiseptic properties it can be used in case of oily skin and finds applications to eliminate pimples, blackheads. It is instead not recommended in case of dry and dehydrated skin.
The essential oil of citronella is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves of the Cymbopogon nardus plant.
