Agriculture: Conscientious objection

Agriculture: Conscientious objection

Faced with an increasingly vast and deafening misinformation and in the presence of the great interests of multinationals and large structures, on the management of the world of agriculture, we are obliged to see that a new form of conscientious objection is needed that is in able to make all of us reflect.
Disorientation is not just about farmers but all the parties involved in the world’s biggest “industry”: food production.
An industry that has been wisely driven towards organizational and production processes so distant from ecological rules and the principles of life that could possibly determine the greatest disaster of humanity if we do not run for cover.
We immediately clarify that we can make excellent agriculture, excellent production, without any need for synthetic products, pesticides, herbicides; of all the chemistry to which we began to appeal since we have converted the agricultural production processes, skilfully matured in 10,000 years of history and tradition.
We have gone from rules borrowed from ecological principles (biodiversity, cyclicity, renewability, etc.) to rules derived from industrial processes and not at all suitable for being borne by nature.
Even if few people know the energy performance of a modern company is often 1/10 of that of a company conducted with ecological principles and environmental protection.
The same agronomy studied on university books, from the ’60s onwards, has been hinged and marked by an agriculture that made massive use of external inputs (fertilizers, fuels, factors of production, etc.) overturning the most basic laws of thermodynamics ecological and agroecology (ecology is based on closed cycles and not on open cycles like the current ones).
The result is under the eyes of all and hunger in the world, unity to the gradual decrease of all planetary resources (water, soil, air, etc.) has increased from the 60s to today (we are talking about a globalized weighted figure , for which the increase in the resources available for a small part of the population belonging to the rich western countries is not valid).
We therefore need to resume, in a drastic way, the discussion on the topic, involving professionals, scientists, operators, farmers, all; because we all feed and eat is above all an ethical question.
It is therefore necessary to defend small sustainable agriculture, as a way to promote social justice and dignity. We must firmly oppose the agricultural enterprise led by the multinationals that are destroying people and nature.
We need to rethink substantially the agricultural policies and all the connected structures; we must affirm the Food Sovereignty and make us understand what Food Sovereignty is and what advantages of social and ecological order it brings with it.
It is a work that can not only start from the world of Science and Politics but must primarily involve the Consciousness of every man of good will.
At stake there is a civilization and future history.
