The term temperate climate defines that climate characterized by the temperature of the coldest month between -2 ° C and 15 ° C. The temperate climate includes several climates located, generally, between the 30th and 50th parallel in both hemispheres.
One of the characteristics of the temperate climate is that in regions with this climate the level of precipitation is higher than in those with an arid climate. Within the temperate climate, the mesothermal climate is distinguished.
The regions with a mesothermal climate are strictly temperate climates. These regions are characterized by a temperature of the coldest month between 2 ° C and 15 ° C. In this category is classified the Mediterranean climate, the warm temperate climate, the tropical mountain climate, the temperate humid maritime climate etc. In the Köppen climate classification it is identified with the letter C.
The temperate climate has been the subject of study for many scientists. In addition to the classification provided by Köppen, the classification of Troll and Paffen and the classification of Rivas-Martínez are also used for the temperate climate.
The warm temperate climate is present in both hemispheres.
