Planet Earth – A window on the future
Who among us does not have the curiosity to know what Planet Earth will look like in 50 – 100 years, especially in light of the great environmental and planetary emergencies, and who of us does not have, even if for a moment imagined the society of the future?
We know that history is the accumulation of actions, facts, episodes that take place thanks to time and how this is determined by that greatness of classical thermodynamics which takes the name of entropy.
Today we know that the arrow of time can only go in one direction, and does not allow the opposite direction, as it is blocked by the entropy that determines its direction and direction. The forecast of the future is therefore comparable to a large mathematical equation in which, however, the variables are innumerable (but not infinite) and the result remains, however, always only one, provided that all the data entered are exact.
If we can hypothesize a future, we have only one of these since all the others cannot coexist nor, from the point of view of classical thermodynamics, persist.
Well done these elementary (so to speak) preliminary considerations let’s see what the future holds for us starting from the first question, which is not the ecological one, we will dwell on that in a little while: it is the energy one. We can say that the modern era begins with the discovery of oil and the subsequent first extraction occurred in 1858.
This sudden source of energy changes the fate of the world but also the system of democracies and power. In a short time, historically, there has been the creation of great wealth and political power in the hands of a few and, above all, the creation of a socio-economic system connected to this model of growth. However, we know that oil is destined to end. According to the most recent estimates, it should end around 2070 but it could also be an estimated date by default. Here too there are too many variables, but we certainly know that the next source of energy cannot be in the hands of a few.

We speak above all of energy from hydrogen, obtained directly from water but also of other renewable sources such as wind, photovoltaic, biomass etc. which, play force, are very delocalized and more distributed. In short, just to start the first impact of the new energy system will be that of a greater democratic distribution; that I have often called: energocracy. Will the multinationals end? They will probably change shape, take on a more participatory texture. A bit like many SPAs made up of millions of small actions by individual citizens.
Now let’s move on to the ecological question for a moment; our planet and its inhabitants are suffering from an energetic model which in absolute contrast with what I love to define codes of nature. As long as it stands, this model will cause further hardships, disasters, degradations, poverty. The next 50 years will be characterized by the transition of the two models: that of oil and the energocratic one.
Humanity will begin a slow path of reconstruction even of itself. Cities as we see them slowly will change their appearance and concentrations. On the other hand, the model of concentrated energy was to create places of concentrated government and so the energocratic era will create widespread places. The houses will change their structure and become ecosystems perfectly integrated into the natural one.
Soon the rules and laws will become synchronous with those of the codes of nature. The exploitation of resources will end and that of sharing will begin. We will go towards what Pope Francis has already prophesied in his Encyclical Laudato Sì, that is, towards Integral Ecology, where ecological and economic laws will be perfectly synchronous.
The planet that will come will not be perfect, remember entropy, we live in an inertial system in which perpetual motion does not exist and in which History responds to the laws of Physics. But it will be a more respected planet because the first respect will come from a social model in which everyone will be more involved.
