How to make the ring grafting

How to make the ring grafting

The grafting technique is lost nowadays in the mists of time and how it has been discovered how to graft not certainly documentable with historical or scientific data; however, the fact remains that from the discovery of the grafting technique it was gradually understood that with different plants and different phenological conditions the grafting technique can be adapted, modified or improved. In this short description we present how to make the ring (or zufolo) coupling. The technique is quite simple but requires a precision often greater than the other types of grafting and the phenological phase (presence of sufficient circulating lymph) more suitable to operate this type of graft. For this operation you must equip yourself with a very sharp knife and with the blades previously disinfected with antifungicide products. The procedure consists in detaching from the rootstock a ring or a square (patch) of bark which will be replaced by a portion of bark of the same size and provided with a bud coming from the plant to be propagated.

It is important that you need to make a bark ring containing the gem from the mother plant, taking care not to damage the bill areas that must come into contact. The execution begins with the operation of detachment of the bark of the rootstock and of the preparation of a ring detached from the plant that is to be grafted with identical dimensions. At this point the ring must be inserted into the rootstock with the tip of the gem facing up (to respect the polarities). Once the gem has been inserted, and verified the perfect adhesion between the two cambodia zones, it is necessary to bind with raffia and protect with mastic in the same way as it works with the other grafts.
The binding must be tight, but must not compress too much, and the gem from which the new jet must emerge free.
If the operations have been carried out with due attention, you will notice, in the short space of about ten days (depending also on the species), the enlargement of the bud and the emission of the first leafy sketches.
