Overshadow

Overshadow

By the term of overshadow we mean the state of suffering of young plants when they grow or lie for a long time in the shadow of other more adult or more developed plants or in any case lacking in light. The overshadow results in a disproportionate lengthening of the internodes for the Gramineae, or of the stem for the arboreal plants that in this way seek a greater illumination.

The Overshadow is particularly negative for heliophilic plants that are particularly sensitive to this phenomenon which deprives them of the necessary synthesizing photo surface.
The phenomenon of Overshadow can be found above all in the woods and, less frequently, in isolated trees, where the annual biomass overshadows the lower and older branches that necessarily dry out, having a passive photosynthetic balance.
